The world's most fascinating luxury watches

Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari Aperta (Ref 905.JN.0001.RX)

The MP Collection by Hublot is probably the most extravagant series from the brand. Highly innovative on a technical level, these futuristic watches have a seemingly otherworldly appearance. In collaboration with the luxury sports car manufacturer Ferrari, the extraordinary watch was created, which looks more like a high-performance engine than a wristwatch. In fact, this watch also delivers the highest levels of performance: with its eleven anodised aluminium cylinders arranged in a row, it offers a power reserve of up to 50 days. To the right of the cylinders, the time is displayed on hours, minutes and seconds cylinders. On the left hand side, you will find a power reserve indicator. An extremely complicated movement like the MP-05 consists of many individual parts. The creators used 637 individual parts in the HUB9005.H1.PN.1JN in-house movement. Among other stunning features, it also includes a vertical Tourbillon. The watch's case is made of sandblasted titanium and polished, smoke-coloured sapphire crystal, while the complex shape of which clearly draws inspiration from the world of luxury sports cars. The timepiece is secured on the wrist by a smooth rubber strap, which is fastened by a folding clasp made of sapphire crystal and black plated titanium. The model is water-resistant up to 30 metres.

The price of this watch is €546,000 and it is limited to 50 pieces.

Christophe Claret Margot L.E. (Ref. MTR.EMT17.060-080)

This is a watch for infatuated enthusiasts who like playful pieces. The main focus here is on the unique dial. An impressive daisy display decorates the centre of the timepiece. An ingenious special mechanism causes the daisy to lose its petals when you press the pusher at 2 o’clock. However, it is impossible to foresee how many petals will fall after pressing it. The manufacturer claims that the watch tries to predict your romantic fortunes. Each press of the pusher is accompanied by a chime.

Another special feature is the inclusion of the phrase “He loves me...”. The much anticipated answer to the question appears in a window between 4 and 5 o'clock. Here, answers such as “a little”, “passionately” or “not at all” may appear – but as the petals, they are absolutely random and in calligraphic handwriting in French.

The watch is available in white or rose gold. Both versions are set with 69 diamonds with 4.8 carats each. Even the lugs of the white alligator leather strap are decorated with octagonal diamonds. The automatic movement of the watch offers a power reserve of up to 72 hours.

The price of this watch is approximately €208,000 and it is limited to 20 pieces.

Jacob & Co. Astronomia Tourbillon (Ref. AT100.40.AC.SD.A)

Have you always wanted to wear an entire solar system on your wrist? Then this is the perfect watch for you. The Astronomia Tourbillon is a true work of art and the result of years of work by the Swiss master watchmakers from Jacob & Co. During the development of the complex mechanism, the designs of new parts were fundamentally revised. The dial consists of a series of four arms that constantly rotate around the dial. One of them is a faceted, spherical diamond that symbolizes the sun. Opposite it, a small globe circles over the dial. It is remarkable that you can visibly see each part of the movement working constantly. This fascinating luxury watch measures 50 mm in diameter with a thickness of 25 mm and has a power reserve of 60 hours. The model is available in either 18-carat white or rose gold.

The price of this watch is approximately €1,000,000 and it is limited to 18 pieces.

Christophe Claret Poker (Ref. MTR.PCK05.021-040)

With this watch on your wrist, you will never be bored again as you can play poker on your watch with your friends. Yes, you read that correctly. This innovative watch embodies the electric atmosphere of Las Vegas. It took two Christoph Claret watchmaker constructors more than two years to develop this model, but the result is impressive: an automaton dial with a very unusual design. On the dial you can actually play Texas Hold'em, which is considered the most common and popular version of poker. The clock features a full version of the game, which can be played by three people at the same time. It contains a total of 98,304 card combinations, which are displayed on three small windows on the dial. The windows for the two hand cards are located between 1 and 2 o'clock, at 6 o'clock and between 10 and 11 o'clock. These small windows are invisible to the other players thanks to a special blinds system that conceal each hand from other players. Flop, Turn and River are revealed in the middle of the dial by pressing a pusher.

The power reserve of this exceptional timepiece is approximately 72 hours. The case is crafted from titanium and rose gold, with individual elements in orange-lacquered sapphire with PVD coating. Thanks to the stylish alligator leather strap, your portable poker table stays put on your wrist.

The price of this watch is approximately €170,000 and it is limited to 20 pieces.

Ulysse Nardin Classico Stranger (Ref. 6902-125/VIV)

The unique feature of this Swiss masterpiece is the mechanism through which the watch can actually play music. When activated, the watch plays the music box melody each hour, on the hour. The sounds are created by a music box complication inspired from the 1950s. There are ten fine needles on the dial that strike the small elevated pins of the rotating disc, thus creating the sensual sounds. During the night the music mechanism switches itself off automatically so as not to disturb your sleep.

This Ulysse Nardin watch is also equipped with a functional winder. Winding once is enough for about five hours of playtime. The Classico Stranger also includes a date window and an automatic mechanical movement. The 45 mm case is made of 18-carat rose gold and is water-resistant up to 30 metres with a power reserve of up to 40 hours.

The price of this watch is approximately €105,000 and it is limited to 99 pieces.

HYT Skull Collection

The entire collection of the HYT brand is based on the same principle: coloured liquids are used to create dial displays. The collection features eleven different models, which all share one common decorative element, the massive skull. The concept of a watch with a capillary system is in itself not that complicated, but the manufacturer HYT had to contend with a huge problem during the development: the thickness of the tube is less than one millimetre in diameter. In addition, in some places it is almost bent at right angles. This made it almost impossible for the liquid to flow through the tube as intended. Nevertheless, the company managed to overcome this engineering challenge. However, what the solution to this challenge is, remains a company secret. The capillary tubing frames the skull, which takes up almost the entire dial itself. The bezel is marked with numbers to indicate the hour. Depending on the model, the position of the red, green, blue or black liquid then allows you to estimate the actual time. Each model in the series is adorned with 35 precious stones and has a power reserve of 65 hours.

Prices for this watch start at approximately €70,000.

Jaquet Droz Bird Repeater (Ref. J031033200)

The Bird Repeater is a true automaton masterpiece with an exclusive bird design from Jaquet Droz. On the dial you can see a pair of birds perched on the edge of a nest and taking care of the two chicks and an unhatched egg inside. This tranquil scene was created with a special, multilayer engraving technique. When the clock starts, an animation sequence is activated and the static image on the dial is brought to life. The mother bird now feeds the chicks, while the father protects them with his wings. In addition, the waterfall in the backgrounds begins to cascade. You can even hear the water flowing down. The power reserve of this model is about 48 hours and the movement itself is housed in a 47 mm case, which is made of 18-carat red gold. This exceptional watch is also set with 69 diamonds and is truly supreme work of art.

The price of this watch is approximately €500,000 and it is limited to 16 pieces.

Christophe Claret X-Trem-1 (Ref. MTR.FLY11.160-168)

Powered by magnetic energy, this is an absolutely astonishing watch. The precise use of magnetic fields in the mechanical movement is what makes them so special. While all other manufacturers declare magnetic fields the enemy, since they can significantly affect the accuracy of a mechanical wristwatch, the X-Trem-1 closely relies on them. The two hollowed steel spheres in cylindrical sapphire tubes on the right and left sides of the case move mysteriously – without mechanical drive but instead by magnetic fields. The position of the hollow spheres indicates the current time, with the fields set so precisely that they have no additional effects on the watch mechanism. Next to each of the tubes with the spheres, there is a scale indicating the hours on the left and the minutes on the right. The 64 gemstones, 419 individual parts and the white gold case impressively demonstrate the technical feats that can be accomplished nowadays. You can also marvel at an exquisite tourbillon which is in constant motion.

The price of this watch is approximately €250,000 and it is limited to just 8 pieces.

Deep Space Tourbillon by Vianney Halter

Inspired by the television series “Star Trek”, the independent master watchmaker Vianney Halter presented his Deep Space Tourbillon. The design of the watch bears a strong resemblance to the space station in Star Trek. In fact, it is a rotating triple-axis tourbillon. It is framed by a titanium tourbillon cage, which is responsible for the spinning motion. In just 40 seconds, the tourbillon has rotated a full 360°. The entire tourbillon shaft spins around a second axis as if on a skewer, which takes six minutes to complete. Lastly, the entire mechanism makes a complete rotation in the middle of the case every 30 minutes. The dial is therefore in constant motion. In order to ensure there is enough space for this ballet-like movement, the sapphire crystal of the watch forms a dome which adds to the spectacle. The case itself measures 46 mm. The movement inside provides a power reserve of approximately 55 hours. The strap is made of a mixture of goat and alligator leather and is finished with a titanium folding clasp.

The price of this watch is approximately €264,000.
