A real eye-catcher: the Chrono Avenger in titanium

The Breitling Chrono Avenger models have an unmistakably distinctive, masculine design. The designers avoided the danger of an overly flashy watch with shiny features by giving the case and the professional-looking wristbands a brushed, matte finish. The titanium used makes the Chrono Avenger (ref. E13360) very comfortable to wear. The thick sapphire crystal is mirrored on both sides, offering excellent protection against scratches and, depending on how the sun is shining, you can see a beautiful colour spectrum from blue to violet. The special grip-pattern on the crown and two pushers means that they can easily be used under water or with gloves on.

In keeping with the matte tone of the Breitling Chrono Avenger, the dial is also finished in matte black. The three totalisers at 6, 9 and 12 o'clock show the actual elapsed hours, minutes and seconds when tracking time. The high accuracy of the Chrono Avenger is provided by an ETA movement from Valjoux with the Calibre 7750. Without exception, each of Breitling's movements are COSC certified. Consequently, you can put your trust in the high quality standards of even pre-owned Chrono Avenger watches. The Calibre 7750, considered to be one of the best chronograph movements ever, is carefully finished by Breitling and is then used as the Breitling 13 calibre in various models. The same calibre powers the Super Avenger II , among others. Although the Breitling brand is always associated with aviation, this need not deter you from underwater adventures, as the Chrono Avenger is water-resistant to depths of 300 metres, making it in no way inferior to a conventional divers' watch.

A look at the history of the Chrono Avenger

Breitling has a long-standing tradition in making chronographs. In 1889, the founder Léon Breitling obtained a patent for a simplified chronograph model. The straightforward production method, the simple operation and the convenient maintenance options made this first chronograph very popular soon after.

In 1915, Leon's son Gaston registered a patent for one of the first chronograph wristwatches in which the pushers were integrated into the crown. This passion and experience was also put into the development of the Breitling Chrono Avenger. The aim was to create a watch that reflected the Breitling DNA of past centuries and was at the same time a modern interpretation of the form and function of a chronograph. The engineering effort was worthwhile, because the Chrono Avenger was convincing in both civil and military applications. During the production period from 2000 to 2007, only minor changes were made to the appearance of the Chrono Avenger. The most obvious differences are the versions with white or black dials. However, if you look closely, you can also see from the small details whether it is a Chrono Avenger model from the earlier or later period. The more recent models have darker markings on the date display and the totalisers are concentrically structured.

Even after production stopped, interest in titanium watches didn’t decline at all. The reputation of this watch as a reliable everyday timepiece had spread all over the world. Chrono Avenger watches still enjoy very stable prices today despite being used for many years.

Breitling Chrono Avenger in the spotlight

John Travolta is actually considered the Breitling brand ambassador. The actor is an enthusiastic pilot himself and is licensed to fly a Boeing 707 as a co-pilot. But another Hollywood heavyweight also has a connection to the Swiss watch brand. Hollywood great Leonardo DiCaprio wears a Breitling Chrono Avenger in the film “Blood Diamond”, which shows the impact of diamond smuggling in the context of the civil war in Sierra Leone. In dangerous situations, a reliable tool watch is indispensable. The choice of the costume designers to equip DiCaprio with a Chrono Avenger therefore seems like an easy one.
