A collection created for fans of aesthetics

First introduced in 1957, Piaget Emperador watches are traditional dress watches with a touch of a cushion shape and models with small cases that integrate their metal bracelets seamlessly. In 1999, the Emperador was rereleased and became part of the larger Black Tie line of the Polo series. As a result, the design of the models continued to change. Emperador watches from the earlier 2000s showcase a slightly elongated, cushion-shaped case while lacking nothing in terms of complications: from classically elegant three-hand models to date windows, small second subdials and power reserve displays, to elegant and sophisticated complications like the tourbillon. The early version of the reissue had no shortage of intricate calibres.

Over the years, the look of the Emperador has changed and the intricate calibres have been fitted into the cases of the sportier Polo collection. Maintaining their slight cushion-shaped contours, these newer Emperador models, however, displayed equally sophisticated complications and feature largely skeletonized dials. Whether as a cousin minute repeater, ultra-thin version, or skeleton watch, these elegant dress watches come in a range of gold tones or, like the impressive Piaget Emperador Temple, completely set with diamonds. One interesting aspect, however, is the case size of the more recent Emperador models. Although they are quite flat with a case thickness of just under 9 mm to 11 mm, depending on the model, they are far from small with case diameters of 46.5 mm to just under 50 mm. The water resistance of 3 ATMs means that the Emperador is only splash-proof.

Notable models of the Piaget Emperador and their prices

Here is a closer look at a few, select models of used Emperador watches and their prices in our online store. This offers a more detailed overview of the selection of models and an idea of what a pre-owned Piaget Emperador costs.

  • The Emperador (ref. P10043) features a 30 mm oblong, cushion-shaped rose gold case on an elegant brown leather watch strap. A silver, refined guilloché dial features a small seconds display at 9 and 10 o'clock and a power reserve indicator at 6 o'clock, while gold sword hands sweep across Arabic numerals. Driven by a precise automatic movement, this 2003 Emperador is water-resistant to 30 meters and comes with its original papers for a price of €5,400.

  • The Emperador Coussin (ref. 18900) is the white gold counterpart to the previous reference. Also equipped with a silver dial, small seconds, power reserve indicator, a case size of an elegant 30 mm, but fitted to a black leather watchband, a model of this Emperador in very good condition from the year 2000 can be found for sale for about €6,900.

  • The Black Tie Emperador Coussin Tourbillon (ref. GOA40042) is one of the more recent models in this series featuring a harmonious cushion-shaped case. Priced at just under €200,000, this 46.5 mm rose gold model comes with a skeletonized dial, tourbillon, and a small but functional oscillating weight on its elaborate, artfully crafted dial. Measuring 8.85 mm thick, this men's watch is extremely flat and comfortably slides under any shirt cuff.

  • The Emperador Coussin XL (ref. 700P) is a bit more modern and sporty, featuring a hybrid calibre consisting of a classic self-winding movement and a quartz-powered generator. This model comes in a 46.5 mm white gold case with a black ADLC-coated bezel and is limited to only 118 pieces. This model's list price was once around €63,160 ($70,800).
