Technical and visual details of the Chrono Cockpit

Breitling's range of pilot's watches are diverse with many variations on offer. Watches of the Chrono Cockpit collection are a standout due to their discreet dimensions, which particularly appeal to prospective buyers who don’t want to wear a huge timepiece on their wrist. Nevertheless, the Chrono Cockpit is still a fully-fledged tool watch with many useful functions and complications. The designers have succeeded in balancing functionality and size with a smaller diameter of 39 mm.

The connection to the Windrider Cockpit becomes clear if you take a look at the dial. However, it is more elaborately designed and has many additional details. The arrangement of the totalisers at 6, 9 and 12 o'clock is similar to the Chronomat and Colt series. The tonneau-shaped date display is located at 3 o'clock and is accompanied by the Breitling logo on the right side. The outer edge of the dial is decorated with a tachymeter scale. The unidirectional rotating bezel helps you to further adjust and measure time intervals precisely. The pushers for the stop function are located above or below the onion-shaped crown, depending on the model. The movement of the Chrono Cockpit is a Breitling 13 Calibre. The basis for this is the Valjoux 7750 before it is then refined by Breitling. The 7750 is considered to be one of the most solid chronograph movements ever made and has been produced with minimal modifications since 1973.

Breitling Chrono Cockpit models and prices

  • A noteworthy model of the Breitling Chrono Cockpit (ref. A13358) is the version with the brown leather strap and brown dial. If you decide to purchase this watch, you will receive a model in very good condition with the original box and corresponding papers, for €2,160 or from a monthly rate of €35.

  • From 2009, the Chrono Cockpit (ref. A13358) with a white dial is also available. It features a crocodile leather bracelet and is water-resistant up to 90 metres. The price for this chronograph is €2,240.

  • The 2012 Chrono Cockpit (ref. A13358) offers a sparkling alternative with its case and bracelet made from highly polished steel. Unlike the other two cockpit watches, this timepiece features luminescent bar indices on the dial and diamonds on the bezel. The price of this Breitling Chrono Cockpit is €4,750.

  • Stainless steel rouleaux bracelet, a white dial with 3 totalisers, gold hands, indices and bezel rider tabs and a 37 mm diameter; this is the Chrono Cockpit (ref. B30011). Equipped with a chronometer-certified quartz movement, this chronograph is ready to be your real everyday hero.

  • Alternatively, the all black Chrono Cockpit (ref. A30012) offers something entirely different. With an automatic movement, black leather strap and a black dial, the 36 mm chronograph looks great with a suit or casual shirt.

  • In contrast, the Chrono Cockpit (ref. K30012) has a wonderfully classic appearance. A solid yellow gold case frames a dark blue dial and a brown leather strap secures the watch on your wrist. The automatic movement inside provides the necessary precision and has been trusted to do so for decades. See the breath-taking quality of this model for yourself.

Breitling's close connection to aviation saved Breitling from crisis

The Chrono Cockpit from Breitling comes from a family steeped in tradition and has left a long-lasting impression on them. When Ernest Schneider took over the business at Breitling at the end of the 1980s, the company, like the entire Swiss watch industry, was undergoing a period of major change. Quartz watches bust on to the market and even threatened to dethrone mechanical watches. But Schneider continued to hold on to what Breitling watches stood for and strengthened the brand in doing so. The focus on workmanship and precision and the brand image centred on pilot's watch were vital in steering the company through these turbulent times. This calculated approach paid off. With Ernest Schneider as boss and owner, many series hit the market that paid tribute to the long association with aviation. These include the Chrono Cockpit series, from which the Breitling Cockpit evolved in 2010.

Other interesting series from Breitling

  • If you are looking for an extraordinary watch from Breitling, you should take a look at the Chrono-Matic series. The cushion-shaped case, the futuristic dial layout and the arrangement of the pushers and crown exude extravagance and is of course combined with Breitling's renown reliability.

  • With the Chrono Avenger the design of the dial is very reminiscent of the Chrono Cockpit. In this series, an even greater importance was put on good readability. The Arabic numerals and hands are luminescent, while the dial has a remarkable diameter of 44 mm.

  • Higher than the sky lies the universe. With the Aerospace Evo on hand to help, you can explore the final frontier. Crafted from titanium, this timepiece is particularly light yet extremely durable.
