The Cartier Ballon Bleu was introduced in 2007 and is one of the House's more recent icons. Its name refers to the domed case, which resembles a balloon, and to the blue cabochon that adorns the crown. The cabochon is set into the case and surrounded by a crown guard, so that the crown blends harmoniously into the round shape. The dial with Roman numerals and the railway track pattern around the edge is classic Cartier. The Ballon Bleu is available in various sizes and materials, and the smaller versions, such as the 28 mm with hours and minutes display, are understated, feminine companions for any occasion.
The W69010Z4 with a 28 mm case is the small Ballon Bleu in steel and displays hours and minutes only. The case has a smooth, polished bezel with no additions. It is worn on the steel link bracelet with folding clasp, which gives it a simple, consistently metallic look.
This example with a silver dial is in excellent condition. It comes as a full set with the original papers and the original box.
